The Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Knight Foundation to continue the production of Sleepless Night, a 13-hour, citywide arts celebration.  Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower accepted the award from Alberto Ibargüen, President and CEO of Knight Foundation, at a gala ceremony on Dec.1 at the Miami Art Museum. One of Miami Beach’s priorities is to maintain the character of its neighborhoods. There have been recent discussions about whether to allow homes in residentially-zoned neighborhoods to be used for transient or seasonal use. From art to film to music, Miami Beach’s cultural season kicks up in November. The arts community is gearing up in preparation for December’s 2008 Art Basel Miami Beach, which promises more free outdoor exhibits from Collins Park to Lummus Park. On the morning of September 9th, the executive director of B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation Institute woke up to find its concession trailer missing from the side yard of her home after bringing it from the Haulover Beach for maintenance, repair and cleaning. B.E.A.C.H.E.S. stored its equipment, supplies and much of its merchandise in its cargo trailer. Without this trailer, it’s out of business. Continue Reading »
