The Florida Department of Transportation construction project will affect a major Miami Beach intersection next week. One south and two northbound lanes will be closed on Alton Road at the intersection of the MacArthur Causeway (I-395) and one westbound lane will be closed on W. 5 Street at the intersection of Alton Road nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The contractor will install a camera pole as well as an underground fiber optic cable pipe scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 3 through Thursday, February 5.
At least one westbound lane along West 5th Street will remain open at all times. Please note that this schedule is tentative and subject to change due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Detours will be established as follows:
· Motorists traveling northbound on Alton Road south of W. 5th Street will be detoured eastbound on W. 5th Street, northbound on Lennox Avenue and westbound on W. 6th Street where they may access Alton Road.
· Motorists traveling southbound on Alton Road north of W. 6th Street will be detoured eastbound on W. 6th Street, southbound on Lennox Avenue and westbound on W. 5th Street where they may access Alton Road.
· Motorists traveling westbound on W. 5th Street wishing to go north on Alton Road will be detoured northbound on Lennox Avenue and westbound on W. 6th Street where they may access Alton Road.
This work is being performed in conjunction with Florida Department of Transportation’s ITS Project (FIN No.: 251686-1-52-01) currently underway from the intersection of I-395 with I-95 to Alton Road, Biscayne Boulevard from I-395 to Port Boulevard, and Port Boulevard from the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard to a location around the Port of Miami Administration Building. The project is one of several in a program aimed at establishing a district-wide Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network. Motorists already enjoy the benefits of ITS along numerous roadways in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties including I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, I-75 and U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys.
