Miami’s hottest improv actors perform unscripted theater based on your suggestions, in the art of “long form improv,” rather than the typical comedy you see at the clubs and on TV. The Miami Beach Historical Association launches the 2008 Miami Beach Author Series with featured authors Rebecca and Kevin Plotner. The authors of A Walking Tour of Lincoln Road, South Beach; Ocean Drive Guidebook and the recently published The Fontainebleau,Rebecca and Kevin Plotnerwill read excerpts and discuss their books. In their three published works, the Miami Beach authors intertwine history and current events in stories that include landmark buildings, historical hotels and dynamic events that created the Miami Beach that we know today.

In Paul Newman’s powerful directorial debut, he casts his wife Joanne Woodward in the role of Rachel Cameron, a 35-year-old spinster schoolteacher, who feels that her life has been meaningless. State of the Union exhibits the works of Margarita Benitez, which explore interdisciplinary art, address social and political concerns, and delve into the world of experimental concepts. On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York’s twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. James Marsh’s documentary brings Petit’s extraordinary adventure to life through the testimony of Philippe himself, and some of the co-conspirators who helped him create the unique and magnificent spectacle that became known as “the artistic crime of the century”.

Swedish master director Victor Sjöström was assigned at MGM the daunting task of creating a film from the Dorothy Scarborough novel, The Wind. The film is an artistic creation for an American studio, in fact considered one of the most beautiful silent films ever made. The film’s score will be supplemented by a LIVE performance by Jesse L. Howard on flute.
